Senior Advisor, Innovation

Wil Yu currently advises a number of organizations, public and private, on strategies related to new healthcare markets driven by changing policy and technology environments. Much of his current work focuses on health IT, data analytics, and related emerging technologies. He is engaged in several collaborations designed to foster both national care delivery transformation and increased patient engagement. He also works closely with a number of health IT and care services startups. 

Recently, he founded a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting healthcare innovation adoption and diffusion efforts. He is also an editor for a new academic journal focused on care delivery science and technology and serves part-time as an advisor to the civic innovation office within the City of San Francisco. 

Previously at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, he led nationwide healthcare innovation efforts designed to facilitate the implementation of policies for both the HITECH and Affordable Care Act within the private sector.

At the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), he headed several innovation grant programs including the "Investing in Innovations" (i2) and Strategic Health IT Advanced Research Projects (SHARP) programs--both funding breakthrough developments in health information technology and the achievement of Meaningful Use. He served as a Senior Advisor at the CMS Innovation Center (CMMI), promoting engagements at the intersection of technology, care delivery, and reimbursement innovation, especially Accountable Care Organizations. 

In collaboration with the White House Startup America initiative, he directed the DC-to-VC effort—promoting investments in health information technology infrastructure amongst early stage investors. 

As a former equity analyst and investment banker he has covered a wide range of markets within healthcare delivery and related services; participating in various equity and M&A transactions.
